In my job, I tend to have to google-image-search for people a lot, to try to find headshots and things like that. I think that’s probably when I first really started to notice this trend – in fact, I’m almost positive that the first time it REALLY struck me was with Jack Halberstam, because…Jack Halberstam.
Holding a koala.
And every once in a while, you’ll come across a funny photo of a celebrity holding a koala, or you’ll see strangers’ vacation photos where they are holding a koala. And it’s always basically even in the same pose. You start to realize that, you know, there must be an Australian zoo somewhere, where they let you hold a koala and they take a picture of you doing it for $5 or whatever.
So I googled “holding a koala.”
I would like to point out that I did not stop screen-shotting because I was running out of material, but only because it was growing ridiculous.
I would also like to point out that this is a super-fun celebrity-hunt game, too. CAN YOU FIND: Carey Mulligan, Oprah, James Gandolfini, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Angela Lansbury (!), Vic Fuentes (I had to google that one; apparently the kids are into it), DITA VON TESE AND SOME ADORABLE GOTHY HIGH SCHOOLER WHO HAS PHOTOSHOPPED HIMSELF INTO THE BACKGROUND, Kim Clijsters (yes fine I googled that one too), Slash, and Duchess Camilla? And can I just not tell One Direction members apart, or has Harry done this like four times? (Okay, admittedly, one of those is actually labeled “Louis.” Is there a “Louis” in One Direction, or is that the name of the koala?)
EDIT: Oh shit!! And Alan Rickman! And THE POPE?!? Who else did I miss in here??? (This seems like it should be one of those one-joke tumblrs, right? “Celebrities Holding Koalas?”)
EDIT #2: It looks like the Dita Von Teese photo wasn’t actually included in those screenshots? So I added it here. Also…sigh, this happened, you guys. I’m sorry.
HAHAHAHA EDIT: WELL FUCK, YOU GUYS. SHUT THE FUCK DOWWWWWWNN. Off to go eat my sadness, l8r.
PS – The answer to the wombat question is actually also pretty good:
